Let’s just get a place that’s super cheap! It won’t matter because it’s like, we’re barely gonna be home anyway!” – Every broke ambitious person who moves anywhere, ever.
Ha. Yea right.
I moved to the West Coast in October of 2015 with my dearest friend from Texas,Gloria, with dreams. Big ones. Much like every other soul who wanders West from their total snooze of a hometown.
We stayed with friends in East Hollywood and figured we would start our search around this area. We had our hearts set to Echo Park, but, apparently people who live in Echo Park die in Echo Park because there were 0 houses or apartments available; and for a good reason. It’s super cute, has great local food, chic shopping, winding hills, and less douchey-looking people. Like a tiny tropical Austin, Texas.
It took us nine days total to finally land on a winner after consistently driving around the city like madwomen, calling every number on every vacant/affordable looking building as humanly possible. Finally, we made the decision to join Westside Rentals, the lifesaver of a website, and then BOOM: We find a gem of the century. Two bed, two bath, a lil’ patio, a giant built-in bookshelf (!!!!), an odd amount of mirrors in every room, track lighting, all located in the Central Hollywood Hills.
Well, the beginning of the hills. A foothill, if you will.
Both the neighborhood and apartment are dusted with special moments at every turn, which is why I want to share our brainchild of a home/hood. I love spending time here. So much that it’s actually kind of a bother when it comes to leaving the house on most occasions. I crave the smell of my room, the scent of the neighborhood citrus blossoms, checking for new life in our little garden…
Anyway! Here she is. Our apartment, our hood and our sanctuary.
