Brows reeeally do frame the face.
The first thing I think of? Every 90s’ kid who phased through plucking their precious pre-teen beauties. Hell, this was me OUT of the nineties, not even 7 years ago. No matter how much time passes, I feel like I’ll always question my choice of brow shape. Thank god for brands today like Glossier and Anastasia Beverly Hills; the beauty go-to’s of brow witchcraft and wizardry. The question is: which popular product is for who, and when?
Lately I’ve been on a more “natural” makeup kick. I know, I know. It’s like, why even wear make-up when you’re going for a “natural” look? The answer: not all makeup has to look like you’re wearing makeup – especially when it’s not something with toxic ingredients and clogging your every pore.
In one of my previous posts I explain why giving makeup a little break up can be beneficial, but in some cases it’s nice to enhance your characteristics with out looking too…extra. In my case, I skip a full-face foundation and most days just do eyeliner, mascara and brows.
GLOSSIER: BOY BROW
Unlike your typical brow pencils, Boy brow is a brow gel. It’s use is to thicken, fill in, and groom brows into place.
The first thing I noticed when I got my product was the packaging: SUPER-DUPER CUTE. The design was very well thought out as far as the customer experience goes, which is actually a very important factor in today’s beauty community.
The whole shebang is a bit small, but a little goes a long way. I bought mine in the color Brown, and use it for when I don’t have time for a full set of “going out” brows. It also comes in clear, if your brows are naturally on point. The texture isn’t cake-y, sticky or abrasive: instead, it glides onto your brows and drys in about 10 minutes. The cost is $16.
Why I love it:
- perfect for lazy girls
- can be used easily on-the-go
- it’s under $20
- lasts forevs
- tames brows into place
- doesn’t make them fall out when applying
- adds color while also remaining natural
- a great & upbeat brand
- cruelty free
- key ingredients:
Beeswax and Carnauba Wax: Natural waxes that hold hairs in place without stiffness.
Oleic Acid: An emollient derived from olive oil that nourishes and moisturizes.
Lecithin: A natural fatty substance that adds a silky, smooth texture and a subtle sheen.
Atelocollagen: A collagen derivative that helps condition and strengthen the hair fiber. - you get stickers when you buy online (!!!)
ANASTASIA BEVERLY HILLS: BROW WIZ
Oh Ana. Why you so good to us?
The Anastasia Beverly Hills Brow Wiz pen is for those sassy, sexy on-point type folk. Which I love! (when I have time or an excuse to go out) This brand is known as the ultimate beauty standard on most’s vanity area.
I’ve never been disappointed with this product other than the fact that I do believe it runs out pretty quickly if you’re using it everyday like I was, which is typical. It’s size is petite, perfect for precision lining and mimicking fine, hair-like strokes. Something else that’s convenient is it’s built in brush on the opposite side of the liner.
The pen is $21, making it a bit more expensive than Boy Brow, but still a keeper.
Why I love it:
- convenient to find in-store
- perfect for spot-filling
- retractable
- built-in brow brush
- creamy, smudge-proof formula
- great for photos & parties
- no harsh chemicals such as:
– Parabens
– Sulfates
– Phthalates - vegan & cruelty free
- key ingredients:
-Vitamin E: helps skin fight damage caused by the environment
-Plant Oils: to hydrate, soothe, and soften the skin
The number one rule to always ALWAYS remember when it comes to eyebrows: don’t over do it. Leave them alone, grow ’em out, then pluck the strays. The world needs more good eyebrows.
